Signs you have a problem

• Fast scratching and rolling sounds in the morning and late afternoon
• Chewed corners on fascia boards, vents or gable trim
• Shredded insulation and stashed nuts in the attic
• Squirrels running the roofline or disappearing under the eaves
• Chewed wiring, which is the reason this is not a wait-and-see problem

Why it happens

Squirrels are daytime animals, so unlike rats or raccoons you will usually hear them right after sunrise. They only need a gap the size of a golf ball, and once one finds your soffit the rest of the local population follows the same route.

The part people underestimate

Squirrel teeth never stop growing, so they gnaw constantly. Stripped wiring in an attic is a genuine fire risk and the single best reason not to put this off.

Identify the species, remove what is inside, seal every way in, then clean up what was left behind. That last pair of steps is what separates a fix from a delay, and it is included in the quoted price rather than added afterwards.
